You do not have to handle it alone

Whether something happened to you or you saw it happen to someone else, these practical steps can help.

  1. Step 1. Check safety

If anyone is in immediate danger, seek urgent help. For immediate danger, call 000.

  2. Step 2. Listen

If a colleague tells you about a concern, listen calmly and ask what support would help.

  3. Step 3. Write down what you remember

Keep factual notes such as dates, words or actions, people present and relevant messages.

  4. Step 4. Use a reporting option

Contact a manager, People and Culture, a health and safety representative or another approved contact.

  5. Step 5. Keep supporting

Do not investigate on your own or promise that nobody else will be told. Explain that details should be shared only with people who need to act, as far as possible.
