Everyone has a part to play

Preventing harm at work is not left to the person experiencing it. Managers and employers have duties too.

For managers

  • Listen, take the concern seriously and check immediate safety.
  • Explain what will happen next and who may need to be involved.
  • Respond fairly, protect privacy as far as possible and prevent retaliation.
  • Follow the organisation's policy and seek People and Culture or safety advice.
  • Review whether work conditions or risks need to change.

For organisations

  • Set clear expectations for respectful behaviour.
  • Make reporting options easy to find.
  • Take steps to prevent and respond to harmful behaviour.
  • Review psychosocial risks, including bullying, and check whether controls are working.
